DoApp is a new kind of internet applications company.
What a Cuh-razy Day!

And they’re off! Here we are nearing the end of the big launch day… Apple is getting flack for their servers going down. Developers are getting flack for having the gumption to actually charge for the hard work they’ve put into the building applications for this industry-changing device. Not to mention the flack some people are taking who just decided to stand in line to get the new iPhone 3G! …at least from some fronts. Get this quote I saw online today, from some guy in the the UK:

“It’s sad when people need the latest phone to feel fulfilled within their lives, queuing all night to get it. I find this hard to understand. It says a lot about our materialistic society. These people that queued all night seem to be intoxicated by the need for some sort of prestige.”

I sure hope for this guy’s sake (or should I call him a bloke?) that he does not typically make assumptions like this. I wonder if he took into consideration the folks that are fed up with mobile devices that lack the right tools needed in our constantly changing, fast-paced society? I wonder if he realizes the major difference a built-in accelerometer and GPS chip, on top of 3G speeds, makes for mobile phone users? And I wonder if he took into consideration how many current iPhone owners love their product so much that they would be more than willing to wait in line for hours on end to get the upgraded version? Frankly, I wonder if this guy has a clue at all… :-)

I typically do not respond in this fashion, but seeing comments like these all day is just getting to me. I’ve even seen reviews on the iTunes App Store for applications that weren’t yet downloaded by anybody! Outside of an ulterior motive, what reason would someone have to bash an application they have not even used yet? No reason. I think, frankly, that people shouldn’t even be allowed to post a review unless they’ve purchased the app! Beyond that, as I further assess this wild day, I certainly agree that Apple should have better prepared their servers for the influx of millions of people who “need the latest phone to feel fulfilled within their lives.” Hah! But for other developers to badmouth a product because they have a competitive product is just plain disgusting. It would be just as easy for them to write a bunch of positive reviews for their own app, but I find that to be just as classless.

I’m anxiously waiting to see all the apps we’ve developed get up on the App Store. (And all those we have in the pipeline, too.) I’m very proud of our Developers, the incredible amount of hard work they’ve put into this portion of our business venture. I fully believe that, once all our applications are available to the public (whenever Apple deems it time), we will find our reward in all of that hard work.

I encourage anyone that has an iPhone to first download all our apps (there should be three up there pretty soon), then write the positive review that is sure to come to mind. If, for any reason, you find something negative in one of our apps, please let me know. We cherish the opportunity to hear what our customers have to say. We like feedback, as our goal is to bring you enjoyment, make your life easier, and generally help you enhance your online and mobile life!

Cheers!
