The Mystery of Our ‘Whoopie Cushion’ App Is Solved - Sort Of

After more than six weeks waiting for Apple to respond to the submission of our Whoopie Cushion app, we finally got a response from them recently. (We submitted this app just before the opening of the iTunes App Store, which was July 10th, along with some of our other early apps.) Unfortunately, the app was turned down, citing community standards in certain countries. However, we are continuing to work with Apple to see if there is any way to get it into the store. Thanks to all those who’ve emailed us asking for the app, or how you could get it! We will hopefully have some more news for you soon on this app.

Here’s what Apple said:

Upon review of your application, Whoopie Cushion cannot be posted to the App Store because it contains content that does not comply with Community Standards. Usage of such materials, as outlined in the iPhone SDK Agreement section 3.3.12, is prohibited:

“Applications must not contain any obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, etc.), or other content or materials that in Apple’s reasonable judgement may be found objectionable by iPhone or iPod touch users.”

When selling in the world market, community standards need to be taken into consideration. Bodily noises are not universally acceptable behavior.
